I Love Music

Growing up as a daughter of two musicians, I was exposed to many genres of music from birth. I remember not being able to fall asleep because my dad would be practicing his saxophone until after midnight. He was a prominent part of the Hartford CT Jazz scene, involved in many bands as well as an music producer. My mother is a singer, and leads a world renowned children’s choir. Both of my parents teach children music theory and instruments. Despite their wish that I would be a singer and classical musician with all of the private lessons I received in piano, violin, and flute, I went quite the opposite direction. In second grade I asked for a radio as my christmas gift and would stay in my room for hours just listening to music. My very first favorite songs were “Upside Down” and “Let’s Get Physical”. I then fell in love with Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie, Luther Vandross, Sade, Aretha Franklin, and Mary J Blige. In 5th Grade I was convinced I would marry Michael Jackson. During my highschool years I expanded my music interest to all of the 80s hair bands, some older rock bands like Led Zeppelin, and even went to see quite a few Metallica concerts live. In my early 20s I gravitated mainly to R&B and Hip Hop which continues to be one of my top music choices today. The rock music fell off as just a phase for me. Once EDM entered my life it was all over. EDM & all forms of house music continues to be my number one favorite style of music to listen to all day and all night with hip hop coming in as a close second. I truly love all forms of music especially jazz and classical, with one exception…Country.
